AP Studio: Assemblage or Mixed Media Breadth #3

Students may choose to work on an assemblage piece using found objects, some of them 3D...in the style of Jules Arthur or other artists of choice. OR they may work in a flat 2D manner using various media. The overall piece must stress the Elements and Principles of design.



D/P II: Metamorphosis

Subject: Drawing/Painting II

Students will be creating a drawing based on the metamorphosis of a natural to man-made object. The elements of line, shape, texture, value and color will be stressed. The principles of repetition, balance, contrast and unity will be emphasized in the overall piece.

12 Stacked Cubes

Students are creating a drawing incorporating the principles of 2 point perspective. Their drawing must illustrate at least 12 cubes that are then shaded according to a chosen light source. The overall goal is to create an illusion of depth...from flat 2-D shape to the illusion of 3-D forms moving within a defined space.

Students will begin to master contour line, value and shading as they create a work based on a paper ribbon. 



D/P II: Crumpled Paper Drawing/Painting

Students will continue to master contour line, value and shading/blending as they create a work based on a piece of crumpled paper. 



AP Collage

Students will demonstrate their understanding of the Elements & Principles of design as they create a unique collage. They will use the process of collage and combine it with various mixed media techniques. 



Ceramics I: Exposed Coil Pot

Subject: Ceramics I

Students are using the Coil building method to create a unique piece that displays areas of exposed coils. Mastery of score, slip and seal will be emphasized along with creativity in surface treatments.



Ceramics II & III: Coil piece

Advanced students will demonstrate their mastery of the coil building method as they create a unique piece. 



AP Map Portrait
Due Date: 8/31/2016
Subject: AP Art Studio

Students will use the Elements and Principles of design as they create a unique charcoal portrait drawing. They will choose a loved one or person they admire and use a map of the individual's birthplace as their substrate (drawing surface). 



Cer I/II/III: Ceramic Pods

Subject: Ceramics I

Ceramic students will use the pinch method as they create hollow forms incorporating texture and pattern. 



Decoupage Bottle - Vis Arts I

Subject: Visual Arts/Comp I

Students will explore the elements of design through the creation of a collage on glass. They will use magazine images along with photos and newspaper to create a design that is decoupaged onto a glass bottle they bring into class. Decoupage Bottles will be evaluated on craftsmanship, creativity and overall design quality.



Portfolio Name Tag - Vis Arts I

Subject: Visual Arts/Comp I

Students will create their first project by designing a name tag for their portfolio. They will incorporate line, shape and pattern into a design with their name as the focal point. These name tags will be evaluated on craftsmanship and creativity and then attached to the front of their poster board portfolio.



Tripod Cup
Due Date: 8/22/2014

Students in Ceramics will begin work in clay by creating a Tripod Cut that incorporates pattern and texture. The finished pieces should be at least 5 inches in height and will be evaluated on overall craftsmanship and creative incorporation of pattern and texture. Each piece should be signed on the bottom upon completion.

Color Wheel
Due Date: 10/28/2011
Subject: Visual Arts/Comp I

Students will complete a color wheel design illustrating their understanding of the important role the primary colors play in color mixing. Students will create secondary and tertiary colors from just the three primary colors. They will then create tints and shades of each pure color. The wheel will also illustrate the students' understanding of radial balance and craftsmanship.



Pod Character
Due Date: 2/11/2011
Subject: Visual Arts/Comp I

Students will enhance their skills at the pinch technique by creating a hollow form (pod) and will then add sculptural elements to the piece in order to create a human or animal character.  A vent hole must be added to enhance drying and allow the piece to fire properly in the kiln.



Self Portrait
Due Date: 5/14/2009
Subject: Visual Arts/Comp I

Students will complete a self portrait for one of their final pieces. Each student is provided with a headshot taken in class. They will grid the headshot and enlarge the grid on the 12x18 drawing paper. They will use pencil and add values for a 3-D effect. The purpose is for the self portrait to look as realistic and life like as possible.



Slab Box

Students are creating a Slab box design that illustrates their own sense of creativity and design. They will incorporate personal symbols within the walls of the box using incised and relief techniques.



Printmaking Unit

Subject: Visual Arts/Comp I

Students were introduced to the art and symbolism of Keith Haring. They are now creating a series of symbolic prints emulating his style. Students will mount 4 of their best prints on black paper and turn in for grading by the 31st.



Surrealistic Manikin
Due Date: 11/16/2007
Students were introduced to Surrealism through the study of master artists Dali and Magritte. They will now create a Surrealistic drawing using an artist manikin as their main subject. Requirements for the project include: 1. environment as background  2. manikin is shaded realistically  3. 1 or more additional objects included in middleground  4. 2 surrealistic techniques included
