CHHS Approved for AP Capstone Program

Chapel Hill High School will add the AP Capstone Program to its Advanced Placement Magnet Program as it enters its third year in 2016-2017. The AP Capstone Program is a diploma program that enhances the AP student’s college preparation experience by adding an independent research component. Advanced Placement students who wish to be considered for the AP Capstone Program must take two additional AP courses, AP Seminar and AP Research. These courses are designed to “complement and enhance the in-depth, discipline-specific study experienced in other AP courses,” according to the College Board. As major universities increase their emphasis on research at the undergraduate level, the AP Capstone Program will prepare students to enter college with the skills necessary to engage in scholarly, evidence-based research.
