During the summer months, it is crucial that children continue to read daily to sustain their academic skills while encouraging an appreciation for reading. Studies have indicated that students who read during the summer can actually improve their reading skills. It is important that students are encouraged to read and understand books that are suitable to their level of comprehension.
Each grade's reading list contains a variety of books geared to a variety of student interests and reading levels. Click on the attached documents for a complete list of books by grade level. Please note students entering kindergarten and first grade may not be able to read the selections independently. Parents are encouraged to read the selections to or with their young children.
The school year will begin with activities and discussions related to the theme of the required summer reading book. The goal of the summer reading program is to foster a love of reading.
